Erin's Journey

I was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1990. I have always loved art since a young age but never really started my painting journey until 2020 when I came across a Bob Ross video, which sparked my interest!

I didn't really have the space to paint, so I had to tell my family to kindly exit the lounge room. Thankfully, I have a loving family that understood the importance of me experimenting on the canvas. Although I didn't really have the space to paint, I didn't let that stop me from practicing. Eventually I moved out and was able to pursue my art career with more freedom.

What stood out to me the most about Bob Ross was his fearless attitude when he painted. He enjoyed being in the moment of painting and being immersed in the colours and the story behind each tree he painted. He let his imagination take over.

On my journey as a painter, I have discovered that experimenting on the canvas is crucial to the learning process. The more I let go, the more I learn. Experimenting is what keeps the painting alive and gives me more freedom and better understanding for future paintings.

I am still discovering who I am as an artist and what I am trying to convey in my paintings. I don't really have a specific style of painting yet but I know that I am slowly finding it. My main focus is painting landscapes, as I love nature and the outdoors.  I am a big fan of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and all of J.R.R Tolkien's books. Reading his books opens my mind and makes me feel more creative. I love the way Tolkien can describe nature in an expressive and meaningful way. He can paint a picture in your mind without even seeing a photo. His writings show a clear indication of his deep love and appreciation for natural world. He conveys how nature can be unpredictable, dangerous and beautiful all in the same breathe. I also have a deep admiration for Ted Nasmith and the way he expresses story telling through his art.

My main goal as an artist is to be able to paint exactly what I see in my mind and to tell a story through the painting.

I hope that today my art brightens your day...
